Learning Objectives

Students will be able to write an easy story about one topic with relevant details.

Introduction

  • Tell the students go now that today, they are able to draw and color an image about something that means they are happy.
  • Give them time for you brainstorm some topics.
  • Give them several ideas such as animals, toys, games, favorite food if they are stuck and can’t think about anything.

Explicit Instruction/Teacher modeling

  • Choose an interest of great interest for your requirements.
  • Draw a picture to go with it. Show the students the way the drawing need not be perfect.
  • Demonstrate for the students how you will choose words that describe your picture.
  • Make an inventory and write those expressed words on the board.
  • Use 2-3 of those expressed words in a sentence.
  • Show the students how the sentences relate genuinely to the image.

  • Instruct the learning students to think of several words that tell about the picture they drew.
  • Ask them to write the expressed words on lined paper.

Independent time that is working

  • Tell the learning students to think about sentences that tell about their pictures before they start writing.
  • Have students turn and talk to an elbow partner to spell it out the point that is essential for them orally using details that are relevant
  • Ask them to write 1-2 sentences about the image.

Differentiation

  • Enrichment: Encourage advanced students to create a paragraph about their picture. They may like to add pictures that are additional writing, encourage them to do so.
  • Support: Struggling students may give attention to correct spelling. Because this is beginning writing, encourage them to sound out words or write them phonetically. You can easily assist them.

Assessment

  • Collect the papers.
  • Read the sentences. Check to make sure they match the picture and stayed on topic.
  • If students stayed on topic, they can independently write more.
  • Meet individually with students who might need help that is extra.

Review and closing

  • Allow students to talk about their writing with a partner before selecting a few volunteers to share their writing utilizing the whole class.
